Give a warm, snuggly Fawn's welcome to Dickens. Dickens Shih Tzu mix, he is likely 13 years old. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and preventatives, and heartworm negative.
Poor Mr Dickens, his mama passed away. He was found by one of her grandchildren in very sad condition. He was so matted and overgrown that he received a sedated groom as a part of his first vet visit. During his visit we discovered that he is 95% blind and 90% deaf.
Dickens is a sweetheart who loves quality time, snuggly laps, and car rides. He is a very good communicator and has several types of barks to express his needs. It took his current foster about a week to learn his primary communications:
He needs to potty outside, he is trained enough to know that he should not potty in the house. This means he will consistently bark until you take him outside to do his business.
He is thirsty and needs help finding his water bowl.
He needs love and wants to know you are nearby. He'll happily settle after being held or cuddled.
Dickens enjoys going on walks and a short daily walk is essential to keeping his muscles healthy. After his daily walk, Dickens is more than happy to hang out in a bed while you work at your desk or flit around a room. He was clearly chef's helper in his previous life, he loves to be in the kitchen while you are preparing his meals. Due to his missing teeth, he enjoys kibble that has been soaked in water for 5 minutes with some wet food.
Dickens would love to go everywhere with you. He enjoys car rides and is happy to hang out in a sling or doggie bag while you run errands. Dickens is crate trained so if you do need to leave him at home, he feels safe and secure in his crate.
Mr Dickens gets along with other dogs and is overall a very chill boy. He had no problems sharing his bed with his foster sibling. While he has not been tested with children, based on his temperament his foster feels he would be fine.
